How Do I Use Our Library?

LIBRARY INFORMATION

 Welcome to Highland Middle School Library

Hours:  Monday - Friday (8:00 am – 4:10 pm)

We have over 9,000 items in our collection which cover many subjects as well as support reading for pleasure.  We also have computers available for students and teachers alike.
Students may visit the library at any time during the day with a pass signed by a teacher.  Library passes for Advisory are also in the hands of the teacher.  Students also visit the library as part of a class.

 QUESTIONS ABOUT USING THE LIBRARY COLLECTION
How do I check out a book/magazine?

  • Show my school ID to Library assistant.
  • Give both my school ID and book/magazine to Library assistant.  The will scan the barcode and stamp the item with a due date.
  • They will return my school ID and the book/magazine to me.
  • I MUST remember that the date for me to return the book/magazine is inside on the date due slip.

 How many items can I check out (borrow)?

  • I may check out a total of 3 books on my student record.
  • I may check out 1 magazine at a time on my student record.

 How long can I keep a book/magazine?

  • Books/magazines will be checked out for a period of 3 weeks.  I may recheck a book/magazine 2 times.  This makes a total of 9 weeks that I may continue to have this item.  **** In order to re-check a book/magazine I MUST bring the book/magazine to the Library and have the book/magazine RESCANNED and RESTAMPED.
  • Reference materials may be checked out overnight only with permission.
  • I CANNOT check out any items if I have a late book/magazine or a charge on my record.

 What charges or fines am I responsible for?

  • If a book/magazine is late (Returned after the due date) I will be charged .10 cents for each day until I return the item.
  • If damage happens to what I have borrowed I must pay repairs or replacement cost plus $5.00 handling charge.  (The school student handbook has details).
