Volleyball/Post-test

Physical Education
The pedagogical practice of a complete body workout moving into an activity. This could consist of an exercise routine based on strengthening and a core workout, an aerobic activity such as running or jump rope and an activity such as soccer. This will give students the knowledge they need for a lifetime of fitness. Instruction provided and participation will enhance learning for future uses and give each student the proof of accomplishment for their hard work. Daily improvement proves positive for future work.

Volleyball

Sequence of Events:
Go through daily exercises and stretching routine.
Daily Running.
Go over the rules of volleyball, including safety.
Pick volleyball teams.
Skill work, passing, setting, serving, etc.
Team work, strategies, etc.
A round robin tournament will be played, brackets are posted on the bulletin board in the hall.

Evaluation:
The students will have a written test on volleyball.

Objectives: The student will

  1. Acquire a general knowledge of volleyball.
  2. Know the rules of volleyball.
  3. Develop hand eye coordination, agility, and strength.
  4. Learn the skills involved in the game.
  5. Develop an understanding of teamwork.
  6. Learn and comprehend the strategies of the game.

Modifications/Differentiated Instruction:
Use the bilingual terms listed in the red book.
Having bilingual students use a peer to explain the rules of the game and changes as we play.
Like teacher explanation on defensive strategies while playing.
Changing teams as needed to allow the teams even playing time by putting high skilled players with lower skilled players.
Self-paced running/Individual mile times and improvements.
Students with special needs will receive daily monitoring and repetitive instructions.
Grades based on skill level.

Standard 2 Benchmark 3:
Demonstrate competency in the use of critical elements of fundamental and specialized movement skills.
Standard 3 Benchmark 1:
be able to set personal physical activity goals and participate in individualized programs of physical activity and exercise.
Standard 4 Benchmark 1:
participate in physical activity that addresses each health related physical fitness component.
Standard 4 Benchmark 3:
interpret the results of physical fitness assessments and use the information to develop individualized physical fitness goals with guidance from the teacher.
Standard 7 Benchmark 1:
participate in a physical activity.

Sponge Polo Objectives:
Learn the importance of teamwork.
Learn the rules of the game.
Learn techniques necessary for effective team and individual play.
Develop hand eye coordination using a stick.
Be familiar with skills and basic strategies.
 

Learning Styles/Differentiated Instruction:
Interpersonal-team work
Intrapersonal-individual work and improvement of skills and daily running.
Kinesthetic-awareness of the body and the need for a healthy lifestyle.
Visual-by demonstration and through shoulder partner critics and compliments.
Verbal-reminders to perfect skills through daily work.

Success Criteria:
Peer compliments on student activity and exercises.
Mile Charts
Pre, Mid, and Post tests.

Discipline and Class Management:
Each student will learn to lead and manage the class while assessing skills as the students go through the daily routine.
Students will learn to manage team play by referring activities.
Students will respect not only the equipment involved but also use sportsmanship when dealing with opponents and team mates. 

Daily assessment:
Points for Suiting Out and Participation.
Shoulder partner critic and compliments.
 
Evaluation:
Students will take a written test over Sponge Polo
Run the mile weekly for increased fitness and lower times.

Standard 1 Benchmark 1:
demonstrate proficiency in combining basic skills for participation in a variety of physical fitness activities.
Standard 1 Benchmark 2: 
demonstrate proficiency using basic offensive and defensive strategies while playing a modified version of a learned team or individual sport.
Standard 2 Benchmark 2:
demonstrate competency in the use of motor skills, motor behaviors, and motor learning concepts in increasingly complex movement situations.  
Standard 2 Benchmark 3:
demonstrate competency in the use of critical elements of fundamental and specialized movement skills. 

Standard 5 Benchmark 1:
select and utilize safety principles in physical education in physical activity settings.
Standard 5 Benchmark 2:
exhibit appropriate personal and group conduct while engaging in physical activity.
Standard 5 Benchmark 3:
recognize the influence of peer pressure and make appropriate decisions using problem-solving techniques to resolve conflict.
Standard 5 Benchmark 4:
work cooperatively with a group to achieve group goals.
Standard 6 Benchmark 1
identify the contribution that physical activity plays in multicultural awareness and in the acceptance of all peers.
