Obj: TSW learn why solar and lunar eclipses occur and understand the Moon’s physical characteristics.

Teacher Activity: TTW facilitate discussing prior knowledge about the Moon, and initiate a KWL chart with students, assign pp. 153-158 top; read and complete sidebars.

Student Activity: TSW discuss objective; discuss prior knowledge about the Moon, create a KWL chart and read/discuss pp. 153-158 and complete the sidebars.

Assessment: Discussion; Q & A over pp read.

Modifications: Peer tutoring while reading selection; assist with sidebars and KWL chart

Student Activity: TSW discuss objective; watch Brain Pop videos over phases and characteristics of the moon; read pp. 159-160; complete sidebars and pp. 160.

Assessment: Discussion of videos; notes/discussing pp. 159-160; and completing p. 160 showing moon’s phases.
